The exact number of fatalities in the shooting at Umpqua Community College in Roseburg, Oregon is still unclear, some reports state 13 while others say 10.  What is known is at least 7 people were killed.  Douglas County Fire Marshal Ray Shoufler told the media that at least 11 people have been transported to the hospital.  Oregon State Police Lt. Bill Fugate said that at least 20 are wounded.  Many were taken by life flight.  The shooting appears to have started in Snyder Hall, where the gunman fired through a window, before the gunman moved to the science building.  Those killed or wounded were found mostly in two classrooms.

“We arrived to find multiple patients in multiple classrooms. Law enforcement was on scene and had the shooter neutralized,” Douglas County Fire Marshal Ray Shoufler told CNN.

Officers first responded to reports of an active shooter on campus at 10:38 PT.  The department says the threat is over and the shooter is deceased.  Though, it was originally reported by Douglas County Commissioner Chris Boice that the shooter was in custody.  Oregon officers engaged with the shooter and exchanged fire killing him.

The AP reported that there are about 3,000 students who attend the college.  Initially there was confusion on campus with many at the college thinking the active shooter situation was a drill.  Investigators are currently combing the social media of a man they believe is the shooter.  CNN reported that the alleged shooter, a 20-year-old male, appears to have had conversations with others about his intentions the day before.  The New York Daily News corroborated that report.  The New York Daily News said that he posted plans on 4chan and was egged on by others who glorified his future actions.

“Some of you guys are alright. Don’t go to school tomorrow if you are in the northwest,” one post read.  The poster also wished everyone an “enjoyable Elliot Rodger day”.  Elliott Rodger killed six people near a Santa Barbara University campus last year.

However, NBC is reporting that the 4chan poster is not the shooter.

This is the 34th time since the massacre at Sandy Hook Elementary School that someone was killed by gunfire at a school, according to Everytown for Gun Safety.  The FBI, ATF, and canine units were on their way to the scene earlier in the day to search for explosives and other evidence.

The identity of the 20-year-old shooter has not been released.  Some social media users are giving conflicting identities, which will not be posted here, as to not perpetuate a false accusation.  Police have not confirmed the number who were killed.  Officials said that at least 3 pistols and 1 rifle were recovered.

It is being reported by multiple stations that the shooter asked students to state their religion before opening fire.
