Michael Setiawan, a former NYPD officer, has been arrested for hate crime charges in connection with a string of anti-Semitic vandalisms in Brooklyn, NY. Setiawan resigned in 2007. Four buildings and 14 – 15 vehicles were vandalized with anti-Semitic graffiti. The messages were not detailed by police. NYC Councilman David Greenfield said the phrases were obscene and some swastikas were drawn. Greenfield added that a girls’ school was vandalized and that some students were afraid to return to school.
“This was an extremely brazen and hateful act,” Greenfield said.
Setiawan, 36, is accused of 19 counts of criminal mischief as a hate crime, aggravated harassment as a hate crime, and criminal mischief.
