Marissa Alexander, a Jacksonville, Florida woman who was previously convicted and sentenced to a mandatory 20-year prison sentence in a shooting that injured no one, received a new trial after her conviction was overturned because the trial judge gave the jury improper instructions.  Alexander insists it was a warning shot against her abusive husband.

Recently, a judge chose not to rule on whether or not Alexander will be allowed to be out on bail pending her retrial.  The incident occurred in 2010.  The next hearing is set for January 15, 2014 and the retrial is set for March 31, 2014.
