Six British soldiers in town for a rugby match have been arrested for allegedly beating up and robbing an off-duty NYPD officer.  The Royal Regiment soldiers were at a bar in Manhattan when the police officer reportedly began talking to a woman who was with the soldiers.  The soldiers are Fijan nationals serving in the 1st Scots.  Three soldiers, Joeli Raduva, 34, Filipe Vunisarait, 24, and Mosese Kurulala, 27, are accused of striking the 30-year-old officer and his friend, “repeatedly about the face and body with closed fists.”  Another soldier Ratu-Iosefo Yavala, 33, is accused of grabbing the officer’s cell phone and chain around his neck when he tried to call 911 for help.  Two more soldiers, Iliakini Raderua, 30, and Thomas Shute, 34, are accused of hitting the victim while he was on the ground.  Britain’s defense ministry issued a statement saying, we are “aware of an incident in New York involving some British Army soldiers. This is a matter for the NYPD and it would be inappropriate to comment while there is an ongoing investigation. All those who are found to fall short of the Army’s high standards will face disciplinary action, up to and including discharge, if appropriate.”
